Ruth Greenstein is the director and executive editor of Greenline Publishing Consultants. She has worked in book publishing since 1989, helping new and established writers develop their work for publication. A founding member of the independent editors alliance Words into Print, she has been a staff editor at Harcourt, Ecco, and the publishing division of GoodTimes Entertainment.
Among the bestselling and award-winning authors she has worked with are Anita Shreve, Erica Jong, Gary Paulsen, Alice Walker, John Ashbery, Sallie Bingham, and Dennis Lehane. She also edits shorter pieces for her book clients; these have appeared in the New York Times, the Washington Post Magazine, Discover, McSweeney’s, Orion, and elsewhere. She works on literary fiction, biography/memoir, religion/spirituality, social issues, the arts, nature, popular science, health, psychology, and media companions, and often handles projects that involve multiple languages, mediums, and genres.
She was educated at the University of California, Berkeley; the Annenberg School for Communication at the University of Pennsylvania; and Deutsches Haus at NYU. Music, poetry, and people are among her passions, along with the nature of California, the culture of New York, and exploring the unfamiliar in language and the world.
